TAG Seminar is a class where TAG and some high ability students can explore different projects and take part in various competitions. Students may choose to work individually or as a part of a group. Some examples include competitions such as Mock Trial, Iowa and Global Youth Institutes, and National History Day; or individual projects like last year's 5K for 5 Families, several student-authored books, or entries for writing contests. Some TAG seniors have used their seminar to research and prepare for prestigious scholarship opportunities. Other students have taken online college classes during this time.
Second trimester is a good time to be in TAG Seminar. We will be working on Mock Trial, where we study courtroom procedure and decorum, rules of trial and evidence, and Iowa criminal and civil code. Students play the roles of attorneys and/or witnesses in a full trial scenario. We compete against other teams in the area such as Denison, Carroll, Ogden, Anita, Greenfield, Underwood, Harlan, Council Bluffs Public, and St. Albert. We have several students who are also working on projects for National History Day. This year's theme is Taking a Stand in History. Some ideas for project topics that have been tossed around include Harvey Milk: Standing Up for LGBT Americans, Harriet Tubman: Standing Tall in the Face of Slavery, Norman Borlaug's Lifelong Stand Against World Hunger, and Napoleon Bonaparte: The Noble Stand that Crumbled.
Students who would like to sign up for TAG Seminar second trimester or look for ways to include this class in future schedules should email or visit with Mrs. Kimble in room 310.
