Being Excellent is Definitely COMMENDABLE!
For the past two years the State of Iowa has produced the Iowa School Report Card. The purpose of this report card is to review multiple pieces of educational data to evaluate and rate schools per the associated legislation. By holding schools accountable in such a manner, all stakeholders are hopefully better informed about their school.
We all know that we are “A Community of Excellence” and our Iowa Report Card rating of COMMENDABLE validates just that. This rating means that we are in one of the highest classifications for the State. This recognition is only accomplished through the hard work of our entire staff and student body. Leading the way has been the work of our teachers. Over the past 5 years our teachers have risen to all challenges to help LCHS have the academic success represented in this rating.
Here is the link to site for the Iowa Report Card and here is the link to Lewis Central High School. Here are just a few highlights from the report card I would like to point out at this time:
Almost 5 point increase in our overall score.
86% proficiency in math and 87% proficiency in reading (10th and 11th grade). We had growth in both math and reading.
We had growth above the State average (red dot) in all subgroups (IEP, FRL, ELL, minority, etc.) Most noteable is the growth with FRL and Hispanic students.
It is the instructional practices our teachers use with our students that have some of the largest impact on student achievement. There is no doubt that our work with Gradual Release instructional framework and our emphasis on reading (independent reading and text in our instructional practices) can be accounted for much of our aforementioned growth. Continuing our work and growth with these instructional approaches can make becoming a “high-performing” school a very realistic goal. This next rating that is very attainable when you look at the room we have to grow in College and Career Ready Growth for reading and the efforts our staff and students are making in the area of reading. Here is a presentation that will be shared with our students.
We owe a special “thank you” to our staff for all the work they do every day that has resulted in our student achievement and this COMMENDABLE ranking!
Proud to be a Titan!
