Parent-Teacher Conferences

February 2, 2017

Dear Parents,

The faculty and I would like to cordially invite you to attend our second trimester parent-teacher conferences, which will take place from 4:00 -8:00 PM on the evenings of Monday, February 6,  and Wednesday, February 8.  We encourage you to enter the school through the main doors to pick up your student’s Progress Report and a map of the school prior to visiting with teachers in their classrooms.

Remember that you can always monitor your student’s progress through our PowerSchool grade book.  As you enter the school through the main doors, staff will be available to provide any assistance needed to get your PowerSchool gradebook username and password, or you are welcome to stop by our main office during our normal school hours to pick up that information.  We will also have maps available of the school to assist you in finding your child’s teachers’ classrooms for your conference.

Providing ample time for teachers to meet with each parent and for parents to meet with approximately six teachers is very difficult in two four-hour conference nights, but we hope that will not deter you from attending.  We believe that the collaboration and conversations that occur during parent-teacher conferences are an extremely valuable part of your child’s education.  Based on some students’ progress, teachers will be making personal invitations for the student and parent to participate in a scheduled conference that will utilize a student-led conference approach.  Please make every effort to honor this request by the teacher and attend the agreed-upon conference time with your student if you get such a request.

In an attempt to increase efficiency and give each parent an opportunity to meet with all necessary teachers, we would ask that you please follow our preferred conference protocol.  First, we will ask that teachers and parents limit each conference to 5-7 minutes in order to respect all those waiting to see teachers.  If 5-7 minutes is not sufficient time, the teacher and parent will need to end the conference with a plan to continue communication at another time.  All conferences should conclude with a plan for continuous communication between the teacher and parent.

An efficient and informative parent-teacher conference should consist of many of the following components:

  • Conversation centered around student learning

  • Two-way conversation

  • Teacher explanation of past, current and future units of study

  • Teacher presentation of student data on past and current units of study

  • Frequent opportunities for parent questioning

  • Discussion of student learning behaviors

  • Planning for future, continuous parent-teacher communication

Communication is at the core of the parent-teacher conference, and therefore, we would also like to remind you of ways you can stay informed of school happenings and events.  This can be done by making frequent visits our school’s webpage at  Our Daily Student Bulletin can be found under the pull-down headings of “For Parents” and “For Students.”

There will also be a couple of informational meetings on these two nights of conferences.  On Monday, February 6, there will be an informational meeting for parents of sophomore students about the Pottawattamie Promise opportunity for eligible students from the class of 2019.  This meeting will be held in the multipurpose room at 6:30 PM.  Parents of students in our Talented and Gifted program are welcome to attend an informational meeting in room 310 from 6:00 PM from 7:00 PM on Wednesday February 8th.  If you would like an individual conference with Ms. Kimble, please contact her at

We look forward to seeing you at our parent-teacher conferences.

Proud to be a Titan!
