Gabe Kjeldgaard has Earned Recognition as a National Merit Finalist

NMSPCongratulations to Lewis Central senior Gabe Kjeldgaard who has earned the recognition as a National Merit Finalist.

Over 1.6 million students take the PSAT test in their junior year; in September of their senior year, 16,000 of those students receive word that they have advanced to Semifinalist status, placing them in the top one percent of all juniors to take the PSAT.  In September of 2017, Gabe was notified that he was a Semifinalist.

To advance to Finalist, Gabe had to complete a lengthy application that included personal essays, letters of recommendation, documentation of his courses and grades, extracurricular activities, and community service. The National Merit Scholarship Committee carefully reviews all of the Finalist applications, and selected Gabe as one of the less than one percent who become a National Merit Finalist.

What does it mean to be a Finalist?  It means that Gabe is now eligible to be considered for National Merit Scholarships, as well as scholarships from specific corporations and colleges.  In fact, there are colleges that automatically award National Merit Finalists full-ride scholarships.  That can translate to over $100,000.

Lewis Central congratulates not just Gabe, but also his parents, Denise and Doug Kjeldgaard.  We know that they have provided Gabe with a great deal of guidance and support throughout his school career.

Gabe is truly a shining example of what it means to be part of a Community of Excellence.
