Posted on 05/01/2018
On April 24, 2018, four LCHS students were honored at a Council Bluffs Community School District STAR Award ceremony, Kylie Kruse, Kelsie Kruse, Emilee Thompson, & Emma Brown. The STAR awards were earned at this years Iowa HOSA Leadership Conference where students armed with medical knowledge competed in various events centered around health occupation fields. HOSA, which stands for Health Occupation Students of America, is a nationally recognized organization with an established chapter at the Tucker Center in Council Bluffs.

Kelsie Kruse, a freshman at LCHS joined HOSA with a little nudging from her sister Kylie, a senior. Kelsie describes HOSA as a medical career focused club that meets at the Tucker Center on early out days (normally). The meetings involve learning new information about various health careers, prepping for competition, fundraising and having fun.

This year Kelsie competed in the poster board competition. She placed high in the standings and will be going to the 2018 International Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas from June 27-30th.

If you have an interest in the medical field, HOSA is looking for you. Chat with a school counselor or current member of HOSA for more information.
