Dear Parents,

This email is to inform you that all students in grades 9-11 will be taking the Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP) on the mornings of March 19, 20, 21, and the 22nd for sophomores.  These assessments are required by the State of Iowa.

The ISASP are used to evaluate our school district’s performance as well as individual student performance.  The assessments make this possible by providing detailed information about students in a variety of important content areas, including Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics,  and Science. The ISASP is also used for the following:

  • Determining how students are performing on the state curriculum as described in the Iowa Core
  • Measuring student growth and progress from year to year
  • Helping teachers identify a student’s strengths and identify areas that may need additional emphasis
  • Providing information that enable sound decision-making and providing a focus for teachers to evaluate their instruction
  • Providing information about your student’s performance relative to the school, the State of Iowa and the nation
  • Determine eligibility for any IWCC college-credit courses

Our school community has worked all year long to prepare and ensure that every student has every opportunity to perform to the best of his/her ability on these assessments.  We ask your support by ensuring your student:

  • Gets a good night’s sleep
  • Eats a nutritional breakfast
  • Attends school and is on time
  • Keeps their daily routine the same in your home
  • Is encouraged to give their personal best before leaving for school

In our Titan Times classes, your student has had an opportunity to discuss the importance of the ISASP, testing schedule, and helpful hints.  In addition, they were informed of the ISASP policy of no cell phones or electronics during the assessment. Therefore, students will be asked to not only turn off their electronics, but to turn them over to their teacher during the testing period and/or turning them off and placing it in their school bag at the front of the classroom.  Please take a moment to have a conversation with your student about these expectations and the importance of them giving their very best effort on this assessment.

Here is the testing schedule.  Seniors please note the schedule changes during the testing times.

Thank you in advance for support.

Go Titans!
