Our mission is to provide educational and training opportunities for committed students through meaningful relationships and supportive coaching.

How our program works: Students apply during their sophomore year and CEV scholars are selected by April 1st. As Juniors, students work with their High School Career Coach to participate in career exploration, job shadows, and explore personal strengths. They will enhance transferable job skills through the Career EdVantage class and summer internships. Senior year, students continue to work with their High School Career Coach to develop transferable job skills and work on their career plan through internships or part time work. Students will participate in Career EdVantage and Iowa Western Community College classes as well as finish up remaining requirements for high school graduation.

Upon successful graduation from high school, students will move to one of two postsecondary options. They can attend Iowa Western, work with their Career EdVantage Industry Career Coach, and enroll in their chosen trade program; or they can pursue a “Straight to Work” option. In the “Straight to Work” option, students work with their Career EdVantage Industry Coach to seek, prepare for, and obtain full time employment in their chosen field.

The Scholarship: Career EdVantage’s scholarship covers up to $6000 annually for an approved Iowa Western Community College trades program or another approved training program. All tuition, fees, and books are paid for by the scholarship. Other expenses for required tools, uniforms, or verification testing will also be covered. Your Career EdVantage Industry Coach will assist you in finding and keeping employment in your chosen field while enrolled at IWCC.

Who can Apply? Sophomores at Lewis Central High School interested in pursuing a high skilled, high demand trade as a career. Our approved career pathways are listed so you can see if the field you’re interested in pursuing is an approved career pathway. Students must graduate high school on time, actively participate in Career Exploration, Job Shadows, Career EdVantage classes, Internships, and Skills Exploration assignments as a part of the Career EdVantage program. All interested Sophomores must apply between January and March. Financial need is considered when applying.
