Frequently Asked Questions
How many books can I check out at one time?
Students may check out a maximum of three books. If you need to have more than three see Ms. Bush. Oftentimes an exception can be made for special circumstances.
How long may I keep a book?
Books can be checked out for two weeks. If the due date falls during a vacation period the book will be due after the break.
What if I need longer than two weeks to read the book?
Books can be renewed for an additional two weeks. You can renew books two times. If you need additional time after the two renewals, see Ms. Bush.
Do I have to bring the book to the library to renew it?
No. You can renew in the library just by telling Ms. Bush your name. She will tell you the new due date. You can also renew from any location where you have access to the Internet by logging on to the Destiny page using your Power School user name and password. Check your account info and renew your check-outs. The directions for logging into Destiny are on the Destiny home page.
Is there a fine if I don't get my books returned or renewed in time?
Yes, the fine is $.05 per day with a maximum of $1.00 per book.
If I find a book title I want in Destiny but it is located at another school in our district, is there a way to borrow it?
Yes. Ask Ms. Bush and she can get it for you in a day or two.
Can I make recommendations for books to be purchased for our library?
Yes. Just let Ms. Bush know what titles or authors you think should be added to our library.
When I search for books, I sometimes see icons for ebooks. What are ebooks?
Ebooks are electronic books. When you click on the ebook title, you will see an option on the right to read online. Then you can read on your computer, ibook, iphone, etc.
What is the user name and password for using Iowa AEA Online databases?
See Ms. Bush or any of your teachers for this information.
What's the deal with that big tree in library?
That is an orange tree that belongs to Mr. Drake. He grew it from a seed when he was in college and that is how big it has grown in these many years since. Each spring Mr. Drake takes the tree home to his house. But with the colder weather in the fall he brings it back to the library so it does not freeze over the winter. The tree bears very small fruit that start out green and then turn orange. But they do not taste like the typical orange you would buy in a super market; they are very bitter. If you are brave, ask Ms. Bush and she will give you one to sample.
Why can't I have food, drink or my book bag at the table when I am working in the library?
No matter how careful you are accidents will happen. When in the library you are usually working with laptops or books. Because both equipment and books are expensive, we don't want liquids or food crumbs spilled on either. Book bags pose a tripping hazard and possibly some students might find it easier to "borrow" books without checking them out.
