Lewis Central ACT Scores Break Records!
Posted on 08/30/2011
The Lewis Central High School class of 2011 demonstrated their academic abilities by posting some of the highest individual scores on the ACT in Lewis Central High School’s history. For the first time in the school’s history, a student from Lewis Central High School scored a 35 and another scored 34 on the ACT. The highest possible score that a student can achieve on the ACT exam is 36. Lewis Central High School again had 10 students with a score over 30.
Among students in the class of 2011, the average (composite) score dropped from 22.5 to 22.2. The state average composite score for 2011 was 22.3. That put the Lewis Central High School average composite score just below the state average. The student scores used for the ACT profile were from their most recent test taken, not necessarily their best test performance. If our student’s best performance are considered, Lewis Central High School average composite score goes up to 22.64.
Overall, the number of students who took the ACT exam grew significantly with 137 out of 185 or 74% of our graduating class taking the exam. This is significantly higher than the state participation rate. On the state level, only 61% of the graduates in Iowa took the ACT during the 2010-2011 school year. Lewis Central High School students also posted solid scores on all college readiness indicators. Looking at the trend of improved scores, combined with an increase number of graduates taking the exam, it affirms that Lewis Central High School is focused on having students well prepared for their future.
To help our students, we will continue to encourage them to take core academic classes. Core classes include advanced college preparation courses in language arts (English), math, science and social studies. Students who take these classes score higher in all areas of the ACT exam. For the 2011 – 12 school year Lewis Central High School will again be a testing site for the ACT exam and has been granted five testing dates. In combination with being a testing site, Lewis Central High School will continue to provide ACT preparation opportunities to help students perform at their highest level possible. Students who are interested in ACT preparation should visit with Mr. Mace in the guidance office.
Our goal is to provide the necessary preparation for any student who is interested in taking the exam their future education. We want the very best for our students, and their future is one of our priorities.
