Dear Parents,

This email is to inform you that all students in grades 9-11 will be taking the Iowa Assessments on the mornings of March 20th and 21th.  These assessments are required by the State of Iowa.

The Iowa Assessments are used to evaluate our school district’s performance as well as individual student performance.  The assessments make this possible by providing detailed information about students in a variety of important content areas, including Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science.   The Iowa Assessment is also used for the following:

  • Determining how students are performing on the state curriculum as described in the Iowa Core
  • Measuring student growth and progress from year to year
  • Helping teachers identify a student’s strengths and identify areas that may need additional emphasis
  • Providing information that enable sound decision-making and providing a focus for teachers to evaluate their instruction
  • Providing information about your student’s performance relative to the school, the State of Iowa and the nation

Our school community has worked all year long to prepare and ensure that every student has every opportunity to perform to the best of his/her ability on these assessments.  We ask your support by ensuring your student:

  • Gets a good night’s sleep
  • Eats a nutritional breakfast
  • Attends school and is on time
  • Keeps their daily routine the same in your home
  • Is encouraged to give their personal best before leaving for school

In our Titan Times classes your student has reviewed their past scores, set growth goals for the assessment, and written action steps they plan to take to help ensure their growth goals.  Please take a moment to have a conversation with your students about their goals.

Thank you in advance for supporting your student’s very best effort on the Iowa Assessments.

Go Titans!
