Dear Parent/Guardian:

I hope you and your family have had an enjoyable and relaxing summer.  The purpose of this letter is to invite the parents/guardians of 9th grade and new students to the high school orientation on Tuesday, August 21, starting at 6:30 p.m.  The meeting will be held in the large gymnasium of Lewis Central High School. The objective of this meeting is to:

A. Review general school procedures

B. Discuss the transition program

C. Review your student’s class schedule

D. Meet your student’s teachers

E. Answer your questions

As part of the orientation, you will have the opportunity to participate in an “open house” that allows you to walk through the building with a copy of your student’s schedule and visit with each of your student’s teachers during the evening.  The open house is scheduled from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.

Knowing that a transition from middle school to high school can be an exciting time for both parents and students, we have a modified schedule for freshmen students the first day of school, August 23.  During this modified schedule we will start the school day with freshmen and new students only for the first half of the day from 7:35-11:25 a.m. This will provide our teachers with time to devote their entire attention to the needs of our freshmen students to help ensure a successful start to their school year.  During this same time, we will also have special activities for any new sophomores, juniors, or seniors to LCHS on the morning of the 23rd.

All freshmen and new students will need to be at school at 7:35 a.m. and meet in the commons/cafeteria area for instructions and expectations for the morning.  We will start the afternoon schedule for all students at 11:30 a.m. and students will receive their Chromebooks at that time. Please make sure you have reviewed the information that has been emailed to you regarding the Chromebooks.  You can also visit our school’s web page for the information. If you plan to participate in the optional protection program, please make sure your student brings the form with them on the 31st.

Just a reminder: Since freshmen students have a modified schedule and start on August 23, the orientation on the 21st is recommended primarily for parents, but students may attend.  I encourage you to attend this meeting and look forward to visiting with you.
