Dear Parent/Guardian:

I hope you and your family have had an enjoyable and relaxing summer.  The online registration process has begun, and you should have received information from the district about the process.  Remember that the registration process is completed online. In the event that you do not have internet access, we will have staff available for registration from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 6, in the high school commons.  During this time, you can pick up your student’s schedule, pay student fees, pick up Chromebook information, and much more. We will NOT be taking school pictures at registration. School pictures will be taken during the school day on September 6, and we ask that you plan accordingly.

Most of the information that you and/or your student might need for a successful start to the school year can be found on our school’s webpage at http://lchs.lewiscentral.org.  The web page is updated weekly with new stories, events, and information, so please make it a habit to visit it frequently.  Some of the information that will be posted would include items like the following:

  • Schedule for the first week of school
  • Dress code expectations
  • Freshman/new student orientation info
  • Chromebook information
  • Student handbook
  • Checklist for the start of the school year

We are having our 9th-Grade Parent Orientation at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21,  in the high school large gym, followed by an all-school Open House from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.  This is a great time to tour the school and meet your student’s teachers. Students’ first day of school is on Thursday, August 23, with freshman and transfer students only in the a.m.  Freshmen and transfer students should plan to meet in our commons area at 7:35 a.m. Tenth- through twelfth- grade returning students will start their day at 11:25 a.m.

As you know, our motto is Lewis Central High School – A Community of Excellence, and our school district is in our second year with our motto of Inspiring Excellence!  Excellence is a target that goes beyond student achievement. We can only attain such a measure if all students are safe and growing.  While we often celebrate our achievement and excellence in a variety of ways--number of students scoring 25 or higher on the ACT, scholarship dollars awarded, and accomplishments on the stage, court, field and in other performances--we know that what sets us apart from other schools is not just these accomplishments, but it is also our strong sense of community and support for each other.  We are much more than an achieve-at-all-costs school. We strive to be a community that values each other's unique contributions to our success and climate.

To truly be a school that represents excellence, all students must work to challenge themselves to grow and work outside of the comfort zone.  This starts with each student having goals that stretch themselves academically and personally. High school is a time in which excellence is truly inspired, but this excellence is only achieved by having rigorous growth goals.  Any type of growth goal will require a commitment to complete difficult and challenging work. Oftentimes, the difficult work can be time demanding and labor intensive, while the challenging work stretches us in new ways of thinking and working.  A person’s success is a direct correlation to his/her response to these difficulties and to challenges that come from rigorous goals, and that is the real difference between good and excellent students and schools.

Thank you again for your support of our district Inspiring Excellence! and Lewis Central High School being “A Community of Excellence.”

Proud to be a Titan!
