Dear Parents and Students,

During the week of March 29th, 9th through 11th grade students will be taking the Iowa State Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP).  During these mornings of testing, seniors will have a different schedule (see the link below).

As you know, we at Lewis Central take the progress and achievement of our students very seriously.  And while tests such as these capture a small moment in time of student progress, results of these tests are used in very important ways, such as student placement in programs and the individual school and overall district school performance profile from the Iowa Department of Education.

With any high stakes assessment comes heightened levels of testing security.  For those of you that are familiar with the policies when taking the ACT, the new test has similar security policies.  The one that will most affect students is the new electronic device policy.  Below are the instructions that will be read to students prior to the first test.  Please review with your student and make any necessary changes.  If a student violates this policy his/her test will be void and removed.

To ensure test security and that reported scores accurately reflect your performance test administration and security procedures are in place to ensure that all of you have an equal opportunity to demonstrate your abilities and that no one has an unfair advantage. Please listen carefully to the following instructions:

  • Close all bags and place them on the floor under your desk

  • You are not permitted to access your bags or any other unauthorized aids, including during the break, until you are dismissed from the exam.

  • The following devices are prohibited: cell phones, smartphones, smartwatches, laptops, tablet computers, portable listening or recording devices such as MP3 players and iPods®, cameras or other photographic equipment, devices that can access the internet, and any other electronic or communication devices.

  • If you have any of these devices you will be required to place them in your school bag or give them to your teacher.  Such devices need to be turned off and you may pick them up when you are dismissed.

During this week, seniors and remote learners will need to follow the bell schedule for this week.  Please note the later start times due to the testing schedule.

Remote learners will be asked to take the test during the week of April 5th at the high school in person.  More information will be sent at a later date.
