LCHS Online Learning Information

Lewis Central Community School District is committed to helping ensure that those families electing and qualifying for online learning during the 2020-2021 school year are provided with those course offerings that would keep their student on track to graduate with their class by successfully completing their course.  The courses offered help students to meet the graduation requirements set out by the Lewis Central School Board and the Iowa Department of Education.  Please keep in mind that our entire course catalog handbook of courses will NOT be available for online learning at this time, but we will have courses available that would keep most all students on track to graduate with successful completion of such courses.

The vast majority of our online courses will be offered through Edgenuity.  “Edgenuity’s award-winning courses combine rigorous content with direct-instruction videos from expert, on-screen teachers with interactive learning tools and resources to engage and motivate students.  Our online course for core curriculum, AP, elective, Career and Technical Education (CTE)...are based on rigor and high expectations of state, Common Core, NGSS, and iNACOL standards.”  (p. 3, Edgenuity Course Catalog)

Those participating in online learning will need to meet the requirements associated with attendance, work completion, and adequate assessment achievement scores to earn credit for a course.

Families interested in learning more about online learning opportunities can do so in the registration process by indicating they would like to be contacted by the school.  We will follow up with families that have expressed interest in such an opportunity and to make sure they understand the commitment and so they can determine if it is the best fit for their student.

Please keep in mind that while we will provide opportunities for online learning, we do not believe that online learning is equal to an in-person learning experience.
