NEW LCHS Traffic and Parking as of 9/8/20

As we begin to finish up our second week of school, we need to make some adjustments to our original traffic and parking plan for the 2020-2021 school year.  As you already know, the construction of our new auditorium and expansion of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program has forced us to move the location and traffic pattern for our morning and afternoon buses.  This will continue to remain the same.  The buses will continue to use the front loop area for unloading and loading (yellow area).  Additionally, our morning student drop off will remain the same (blue area).  As a reminder, parents should follow the blue arrows on the diagram below and make sure you don’t drop off your student until you have fully pulled forward in the drop off area.  The drop off area is marked with yellow diagonal lines.  Please do not stop in front of the handicapped parking.

By this Friday, the contractors will have a fence around the construction area.  This is roughly marked with the red area on the map.  This results in the loss of several parking spaces and the location of our original after school student pick up area.  Knowing this, and to alleviate the congestion that parents are experiencing after school, we are going to have students that are picked up after school walk over to ISD and meet their ride at the Lied Center parking lot.  If the driver has time, they park at ISD and wait for the buses to leave and pick up their child at 3 p.m. in our front loop.  Either of those options will provide the parent with an uninterrupted parking location and two different options based on weather and their preference to pick up their child without the hassle of dealing with the congestion in our parking lot.   (You may start this after school pick up location as soon as tomorrow.)

The last change impacts those freshmen students awaiting their parking permit stickers.  Because of the loss of parking spots and the increase in student drivers, we do not have enough parking space in the LCHS parking lot for our student drivers.  Therefore, 9th grade students now receiving their parking permit will be asked to park in the middle school parking lot and walk over to the high school.  These parking areas are marked in light green on the map, along with the walking path to the high school.  In the near future these parking spaces will also be painted with a blue “HS” for high school parking.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support as we make adjustments to help ensure that traveling to and from school runs smoothly for all involved.
