Lu Peverill - Teacher of the Month October

Lu works extremely hard keeping track of our at-risk students, mentoring these students in regards to their goals, and ensuring that they are completing all the classes they need to graduate.  If a student is not attending class, she puts on her detective hat and tracks them down through countless phone calls and home visits.

Lu has a compassion to help others through difficult times.  Through the grief group she runs, Lu assists many of our students who need support due to the loss of a loved one.  When a student gets in trouble because of a poor choice, Lu works with the student to ensure he or she makes better decisions in the future.  Instead of passing judgement, she focuses on what lies ahead and does everything she can to provide support.

Lu not only works during the week, but she also teaches at least one Saturday school a trimester for students who have a substance abuse violation.  Those students complete a substance assessment, and Lu follows up with them every two weeks as a part of the curriculum she uses.

Lu is passionate about students and leads with empathy.  This is not having pity or sympathy for a student, but empathy; she acknowledges their emotions and struggles, but still holds them accountable.

Lu bleeds blue and is passionate about our students, staff, and school.  She is a great team member in the counseling office.  Since she is also a coach at Glenwood, you might say she loves students so much she is "black and blue!"
