Lewis Central High School – A Community of Excellence!

Parent-Teacher Conferences

January 24, 2020

Dear Parents,

The faculty and I would like to cordially invite you to attend our second trimester parent-teacher conferences, which will take place from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on the evening of Monday, January 27,  and Wednesday, January 29.  We encourage you to enter the school through the main doors to pick up your student’s Progress Report and a map of the school prior to visiting with teachers in their classrooms.

Remember that you can always monitor your student’s progress through our PowerSchool gradebook.  As you enter the school through the main doors, staff will be available to provide any assistance needed to get your PowerSchool gradebook username and password, or you are welcome to stop by our main office during our normal school hours to pick up that information.  We will also have maps available of the school to assist you in finding your child’s classrooms for your conferences.

An efficient and informative parent-teacher conference should consist of many of the following components:

  • Conversation centered around student learning
  • Two-way conversation
  • Teacher explanation of past, current, and future units of study
  • Teacher presentation of student data on past and current units of study
  • Frequent opportunities for parent questioning
  • Discussion of student learning behaviors
  • Planning for future, continuous parent-teacher communication

Communication is at the core of the parent-teacher conference, and therefore, we would also like to remind you of ways you can stay informed of school happenings and events.  This can be done by making frequent visits to our school’s webpage at http://lchs.lewiscentral.org/.  Our Daily Student Bulletin can be found under the pull-down headings of “For Parents” and “For Students.”

Sophomore parents:  On Monday, January 27, at 6:30 p.m. in our library, there will be an ICAN Career and College Planning presentation.  On Wednesday, January 29, at 6 p.m., there will be an informational meeting about Pottawattamie Promise and Career EdVantage scholarships to Iowa Western Community College.

On Wednesday, January 29, LCHS counselors and staff certified in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be offering their services free of charge to seniors and/or their parents from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the high school library to help you complete your application.  Here is an article with more information.

Scholarship season has begun and therefore we would remind you to read the announcements and check the listing of scholarships found on our “School Counseling” page under “Scholarship List.”  If you have additional questions, please contact 11th and 12th grade counselor, Mrs. Bode-Steinke.

Please check this letter on our webpage to see any teacher absences for Parent-Teacher Conferences.

We look forward to seeing you at our parent-teacher conferences.

Proud to be a Titan!
