November 6, 2020

I hope this email finds you well and enjoying this unseasonably warm weather.  It looks like it is going to be changing for next week, so be prepared.

The next two weeks can often be big academic weeks for students as they prepare for the upcoming finals on November 18 and 19.  Remember there is no school for students on Friday, November 20th, and the second trimester will start on Monday, November 23rd.

We have seen a recent increase in the number of current positive Covid-19 cases.  Even though we have 11 total positive cases (8 students and 3 staff), this still only represents right at 1% of our total population of students and staff.  That being said, as we move close to the start of the second trimester and winter activities begin, we are looking at some additional mitigation measures in a few areas.  One area is in our activities, where we will be expecting participants to wear masks when not engaged in strenuous or cardio activity.  Any individual within 6 feet for 15 consecutive minutes (unmasked) of a positive testing individual will be quarantined by the health department.  Increased expectations with masks will hopefully help keep students and staff healthy, limit exposures and limit the amount of quarantining that takes place.

Our efforts to date, and the talents of our students, have made it possible for our girls swimmers to compete this Saturday at their state qualifying meet, and our football team plays tonight for their own chance to play at the dome.  Additionally, our drama department moves closer to releasing the production of their fall movie Love (awkwardly).  We wish them all the best and know they will make us proud with their work in the pool, on the field, and in front of the camera.

As we get closer to the winter (and flu) season, we ask parents to be really diligent in helping us fight covid.  Some things that we ask:

  • Continue to communicate with the school regarding health issues with your child.  We will follow health department recommendations in all situations.

  • We understand that nobody wants to be the “cause” of other students being quarantined, but the more information we get, the better chance we have to conduct contact tracing immediately and avoid more students/staff being affected.

  • If your son/daughter tests positive, please help us gather information from your son/daughter in regard to unmasked contacts so we can act immediately in following protocols.

  • Limit the amount of social gatherings and other activities that put students in contact with multiple unmasked people outside of school.

  • Continue to encourage the usage of hand sanitizer, washing of hands, and social distancing when possible.

  • Always call with any questions or concerns.

Remember to encourage your students to make sure they are finishing the trimester strong and doing everything they can to prepare for the examinations they will be taking over the next couple of weeks.

Proud to be a Titan!
