Dear Parent/Guardian:

The online registration process has begun, and you should have received information from the district about the process.  Remember that the registration process is completed online.  In the event that you do not have internet access, we will have staff available for registration assistance from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Most of the information that you and/or your student might need for a successful start to the school year can be found on our school’s webpage at http://lchs.lewiscentral.org.  The web page is updated weekly with new stories, events, and information, so please make it a habit to visit it frequently.  Some of the information that will be posted would include items like the following:

  • Schedule for the first week of school

  • New protocols and procedures

  • Freshman/new student orientation info

  • Chromebook information

  • Student handbook

  • Checklist for the start of the school year

We are having our Virtual 9th-Grade and New Student Parent Orientation at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 20th.  We will share more information about this event closer to August 20th.  We will not have an Open House this year; therefore, you can be looking for a “welcome email” from your student’s teachers on or near August 20th.  This email will include information about any supplies needed for that specific class, an overview of class expectations, and how to find helpful information about the class.

We will only have freshmen and new students to the district attend school on Tuesday, August 25th.  This will provide us with an opportunity to help prepare these new students to the high school for a successful school year.  Students will start the day in their Titan Time class.  We will spend the morning completing many of the activities that students would have experienced last spring in our 5-Star Transition Day.  The afternoon will include all class periods 1-6 with lessons designed to help students to be successful during the school year.  On Wednesday, August 26th all students need to be in attendance.  We will also start the 26th in our Titan Time classes.  Much of these first two days will be devoted to going over procedures and expectations that have been put in place as a result of Covid-19 and other critical information to help students to have a successful start to the school year.  Students will be able to see their schedules in PowerSchool next week sometime.

School pictures will be taken during the school day on August 27th, and we ask that you plan accordingly.

It goes without saying that the start to this year will be unique for students and staff alike.  Despite the challenges and adjustments we have put in place as a result of Covid-19, we will continue to lean on those critical elements that we know every student needs to be successful.  First and foremost we want students to feel safe and supported at school.  Everyone is excited to return to school and see their friends, but many might be a bit more anxious than a typical start to a school year, and we want our students to know we will have supports in place for their safety, physically and emotionally.  We learned a lot from the end of last school year: the importance of communication, flexibility, and contingency planning.  But what stood out the most was the importance of relationships and the support we can provide when we have those interactions with our students.  We do not know what this school year holds for us, but we know that we can leverage what we learned and what we already know about student learning to help ensure that all students have a successful 2020-2021 school year.  This will likely not be without some challenges, but working together will ensure that your child will have a successful school year.

Thank you again for your support of our district Inspiring Excellence! and Lewis Central High School being “A Community of Excellence.”

Proud to be a Titan!
