All students entering college next fall will want to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Students must complete the FAFSA to be eligible for any type of aid, including grants, work study, loans, etc.  The official website to complete the FAFSA is:  fafsa.ed.gov

The Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) has an office on the Iowa Western Community College Campus.  ICAN offers FAFSA assistance, as well as numerous other free college planning services.  Email JWesselman@icansucceed.org to make an appointment or call (877) 272-4692.

The Education Quest Foundation is located in the Rockbrook Village in Omaha.  Education Quest offers numerous free college planning services including FAFSA assistance.  Call (402) 391-4033 to make an appointment.

Students must earn a total of 55 credits from a combination of required and elective courses in order to graduate from Lewis Central High School. 

Students use a checklist of graduation requirements in the advisory folder.  This is done in Titan Time three times during the year.

High school students who plan to attend four-year colleges and universities are encouraged to make rigorous course selections. Iowa's Regent Universities, as well as other four-year institutions, suggest that high school students take a minimum of three to four years of all core subjects.  The high school course recommendations found in the "Building Your Future" article and grid are a good guideline for admission to any four-year institution.  The Regent Universities of Iowa (The University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and the University of Northern Iowa) have also started using the Regent Admission Index (RAI). The RAI is a mathematical formula used to determine student admission to these three universities.  The formula is based upon the number of core courses a student takes in high school, as well as the student's grade point average, class rank and ACT composite score.

The Iowa College Access Network (ICAN) provides a wide range of free services to help students and parents in the college planning process.  ICAN, formerly known as the College Planning Center, has office locations in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids.  ICAN representatives travel to high schools around the state offering presentations and support in all areas of college planning.  Be sure to visit their website for planning information:

Students from Iowa high schools planning to begin their studies in fall 2009 or later must have a Regent Admission Index score of at least 245 and take the minimum number of required high school courses to qualify for automatic admission to Iowa State University, the University of Northern Iowa, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at The University of Iowa. Students who achieve a score less than 245 will be considered for admission on an individual basis.

The index combines four factors that strongly predict success at regent universities: ACT or SAT test score, high school cumulative grade-point average, and the number of completed high school core courses.
